Proposal to Expand IPERS Access for Voluntary Participation

To: Rep. Madison, Gov. Reynolds, Sen. Celsi

From: A constituent in West Des Moines, IA

April 6

Iowa should allow private-sector, gig, and self-employed workers to voluntarily opt into a state-managed retirement plan through IPERS. Millions of Iowans face retirement with little to no savings, and the current private retirement system is failing too many people. IPERS is well-managed, stable, and already serves thousands. It has the structure and expertise to handle expansion. Other states have created public retirement options. Iowa can do the same and offer a secure, long-term pension option. This would reduce future reliance on public assistance and give more people a fair path to retire with dignity. Please support legislation to make this possible.
