State Budget

To: Sen. Anthony, Rep. Witwer

From: A constituent in Lansing, MI

October 2, 2025

I know budgets are hard. And in a state where term limits mean you are constantly campaigning it can be difficult to do the politically brave thing. However, Michigan has one of the lowest tax burdens of any state. Our business taxes are the lowest of any state. How about instead of making horrid cuts that make the lives of Michiganders worse--that make our schools suffer, our infrastructure fall apart, and the quality of life plummet--how about you raise taxes on businesses? They're willing to pay them in other states. Right now, the budget cuts--especially the $11 million cut to Michigan arts programs that are already suffering--will do nothing but make Michigan a worse place to live. It will cause real human suffering. I know it isn't popular to raise taxes. But goverenment has a duty to care for its people. Please don't let the budget debate be won by people who just want to score political points with a sadistic constituency that delights in the suffering of others. Thank you.
