I’m writing to you because I’m deeply concerned about the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” moving through the Senate right now. On the surface, it sounds like a big win for American families—but when you dig into the details, it’s clear this bill is stacked to benefit billionaires and corporations, not the people who actually need help.
Let’s be real: this bill would add nearly $2.8 trillion to our national debt over the next decade. That’s a staggering number, especially since it locks in permanent tax breaks for the wealthy while forcing everyday Americans and future generations to pick up the tab.
One of the worst parts? The plan to sell off millions of acres of our public lands. We’re talking about up to 3.3 million acres of forests, wildlife habitats, and beloved outdoor spaces in states like California, Colorado, and Utah. These aren’t just empty tracts of land—they’re the heart of local communities, tourism economies, and places where families spend time together and connect with nature. To see these areas sold off just to pay for more billionaire tax breaks feels like a betrayal.
And speaking of families, this bill doesn’t do nearly enough to help children in poverty. While it promises to increase the Child Tax Credit, millions of kids from low-income families—some estimates say up to 22 million children—would still be left out. Even worse, the bill slashes funding for Medicaid and SNAP, which are lifelines for so many families trying to make ends meet. The Congressional Budget Office says low-income households would lose on average about $1,600 a year, while the wealthiest Americans see their tax breaks increase by around $12,000.
It’s also incredibly worrying that the bill continues to impose harsh work requirements on Medicaid recipients and cuts access to vital healthcare programs. Plus, there’s a disturbing amendment included that would block transgender youth from receiving necessary medical care. This kind of discrimination has no place in legislation that’s supposed to serve all Americans.
On top of all this, the bill guts clean energy tax credits, jeopardizing our progress on climate change, and keeps the SALT deduction cap in place, which unfairly hurts middle-class families in high-cost states.
This isn’t about helping everyday Americans. It’s about shifting even more power and wealth to corporations and the richest few—while selling off our lands, hurting vulnerable families, and expanding inequality.
Please, stand with the people you represent. Reject this bill. Protect our public lands, our children, and our future.
Thank you for your time and your service.
