There is a need for Democratic leaders to recognize that voters are very skeptical of current leadership in the Congress and their willingness to hold the current administration accountable while working to undue the damage that has occurred to our nation over the last two years. If Chuck Schumer is retained as majority leader in the Senate he will have to work hard to overcome his current image as too meek to take on the task in front of him. The desire for change and action will likely require a different public face in that role if Democrats are to regain the trust of voters. Make no mistake, the election results were not a vote of trust in current leadership. They were à call for action and change. Leadership that is willing to be aggressive and active without compromise is needed. If Hakeem Jeffries is in a similar situation, and while he may have more of a chance of showing he is up to the task, will need to work hard to show he is supportive of universal healthcare, accountability, and reform. Recent statements have not been encouraging. If he can’t step up to the moment, other leadership may be needed. I am calling on the WA delegation- leaders all - to make sure the Congress hears this message.
