I’m writing to demand immediate congressional action to investigate the Trump administration’s decision to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the Qatari royal family for use as Air Force One and plan to transfer it to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation after his term. This is not diplomacy. It’s influence peddling dressed as logistics.
The Constitution’s Emoluments Clause explicitly bars federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments without congressional approval. Circumventing that process by routing the gift through the Air Force and then to a private foundation mocks the intent of the law and opens the door to unchecked foreign influence over U.S. leaders.
This gift comes on the heels of the Trump Organization’s reported $5.5 billion real estate deal in Qatar. The optics and timing are damning. Americans should not have to wonder whether foreign powers are buying favor through luxury aircraft and private contracts.
I urge you to launch an immediate investigation and block this transfer. No public office, especially that of the POTUS, should ever be for sale.
