I am writing as your constituent to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 1, the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” This legislation is especially damaging to Alaskans. Many of our rural and working families rely on Medicaid and SNAP to help offset Alaska’s high cost of living, food insecurity, and healthcare access challenges. Imposing strict work requirements and burdensome eligibility checks will mean more people—particularly in remote communities—lose essential coverage and assistance simply because of bureaucratic red tape. The bill also bans Medicaid funding for reproductive healthcare and gender-affirming care, denying Alaskans critical services in a state where options are already limited by geography and provider shortages. At the same time, this bill extends tax cuts that primarily benefit corporations and wealthier households, rather than addressing the real economic needs in our state—like affordable housing, infrastructure, and strong public schools. Moreover, the bill’s massive increase in defense and border wall funding diverts resources from priorities Alaskans care about, including investments in climate resilience, energy security, and economic diversification. Alaska deserves better than legislation that increases inequality and leaves our neighbors behind. I urge you to reject this bill and stand up for the Alaskans who count on you to protect their health, well-being, and future. Please vote NO on H.R. 1. Thank you for your consideration.
