Demand Transparency on Senator McConnell's Capacity to Serve

To: Sen. Cantwell, Rep. DelBene, Sen. Murray, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 7

Senator McConnell has not been seen in public since June 14th — that's over 53 days — and the American people deserve a straight answer about whether he is capable of fulfilling his duties. He holds one of the most powerful positions in the federal government, with direct national security obligations while the country is at war. A few phone calls to allies and a pair of photos aren't accountability. His office has issued three first-person press statements, but no videos, no interviews, no calls with Democrats, and no contact with Gov. Andy Beshear — the governor of his own state. He is casting Senate Agriculture Committee votes by proxy, with colleagues claiming phone authorization. That may be technically permitted, but it is not transparency. The Senate Majority Leader cannot govern in secret. I want my representative to formally call for a public confirmation of Senator McConnell's capacity to serve — on camera, in his own voice. The voters of Kentucky and the entire country have a right to know that the person exercising this much power is actually the one making these decisions.
