Ban ICE Warehouse Detention Centers
I am a voting constituent writing to express my strong support for the legislation recently introduced by Representative Rashida Tlaib, which would prohibit U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from converting industrial warehouses into detention centers. I urge you to co-sponsor and champion this bill.
Industrial warehouses are designed for the storage of cargo and machinery, not for human habitation. Converting these windowless, cavernous structures into makeshift prisons is inherently inhumane and poses significant health and safety risks. These facilities often lack the necessary infrastructure for proper ventilation, natural light, and sanitation required to maintain basic human dignity. Using such spaces treats vulnerable individuals—many of whom are seeking legal asylum—as mere inventory rather than human beings with fundamental rights.
The expansion of the detention system into industrial zones bypasses critical oversight and signals a dangerous trend toward the mass, profit-driven incarceration of migrants in unsuitable environments. Our immigration policy should prioritize humanity and due process over the rapid expansion of concentration camps.
I ask that you stand on the side of human rights by supporting this ban on warehouse detention. We must ensure that our government never treats people like cargo.
