Protect Free Speech and Vote NO on H.R. 9495
To: Sen. Casey, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Cartwright
From: A constituent in East Stroudsburg, PA
November 20
congress As your constituent, I am writing to strongly urge you to vote NO on H.R. 9495. This bill poses a significant threat to free speech, democratic values, and due process, empowering current and future administrations to stifle dissent, target political opponents, and punish disfavored groups. H.R. 9495 would grant the executive branch sweeping authority to shut down nonprofit organizations accused of providing "material support" to terrorist groups—without due process. The vague and overly broad definition of "material support" could be exploited to target nonprofits for their political advocacy, environmental work and other constitutionally protected activities. History shows us the dangers of such unchecked power. In the post-9/11 era, "material support" investigations have disproportionately impacted Muslims, charities, and civil society organizations. This bill risks perpetuating these abuses, silencing dissent, and undermining First Amendment protections under the guise of national security. Simply put, H.R. 9495 will not enhance our safety. Instead, it threatens to suppress political advocacy and penalize organizations for expressing viewpoints that challenge the status quo. I urge you to stand up for due process, free speech, and our democratic principles by opposing this dangerous legislation. Thank you for your time and consideration.
