Investigate White House Interference: Protect the Integrity of Our Tax Laws
I am a voting constituent writing to compel an immediate, transparent congressional investigation into the ousting of Kenneth Kies, the Treasury Department’s top tax policy official.
Mr. Kies was forced out of his position after repeatedly warning the White House that its demands risked violating federal law—specifically statutes prohibiting senior executive branch officials from interfering in or influencing IRS audits. Upholding the rule of law should be the minimum standard for public service, not a fireable offense. Pushing out a senior official for preventing unlawful executive interference is abuse of power.
When civil servants are retaliated against for protecting the political neutrality of our tax system, the integrity of our institutions is compromised.
I urge you to take immediate and decisive action:
Launch a bipartisan inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Kenneth Kies’s forced departure.
Hold public hearings to demand accountability from Treasury and White House leadership.
Legislate stronger, enforceable protections for federal whistleblowers who shield the tax system from political overreach.
The American public requires confidence that tax enforcement is free from political weaponization. I look forward to your prompt action on this matter.
