Protect Our Public Lands

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Foster, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Batavia, IL

April 7

I am beyond angry at the Trump administration’s mismanagement, destruction, and sale of our public lands. Currently they are moving forward with proposals to transfer control over tens of millions of acres of public land to the oil and gas, mining, and timber industries. The administration has already initiated actions to eliminate or weaken protections from more than 175 million acres of U.S. lands; including some of the most intact national forest lands. Now they propose to erase protections for approximately 88 million acres of public lands opening these places up for drilling, mining, logging, and other extractive development. They will open sensitive Arctic wildlife habitat for drilling, eliminate restrictions on mining for ecologically sensitive lands and waters, and erase conservation requirements and habitat protections. In addition, administration will move the U.S. Forest Service headquarters out of the nation’s capital to Salt Lake City and close research facilities in 31 states, weakening the agency's ability to manage 154 national forests. I ask that l you — oppose the reorganization of the U.S. Forest Service, which will weaken the agency’s ability to protect our national forests; — repeal the H.R. 1 provisions that have supercharged the sale of our public lands to oil and gas companies; — oppose the repeal of regulations that protect our lands and wildlife from mining, drilling, and logging Our public lands belong to the American people. Please do not allow them to be sold off to the greedy oil and gas, mining, and timber industries Thank you.
