Opposition to the "Big Beautiful Bill"
To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Whitesides
From: A constituent in Castaic, CA
May 27
this bill that will devastate vulnerable communities, undermine our democratic institutions, and compromise our values. I am writing to express my outrage and deep concern about the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Act. As a constituent, I am appalled by the numerous provisions in This bill is a sweeping attack on our democracy, and I am particularly concerned about the following provisions: The $351 billion in cuts to student aid, which will affect Pell Grant eligibility, student borrowing limits, and protections from predatory lenders. The repeal of President Biden's student debt forgiveness program, which will harm students and borrowers who are already struggling with debt. The $50 billion in cuts to the Federal Employee Retirement System, which will reduce take-home pay, retirement benefits, and protections for federal workers. The restrictions on court contempt power, which threaten the power of the judicial branch and the rule of law. (AI) in political campaigns. The provision that allows false information to spread in elections by banning the enforcement of state and local laws regulating artificial intelligence istance. The $300 billion funding cut and new work requirements for SNAP, which will harm low-income individuals and families who rely on the program for food ass The rollbacks of climate-focused programs and clean energy tax incentives, which will exacerbate the climate crisis. The complicated tax code, which will further burden taxpayers. The harm to consumer protection, worker's rights, access to healthcare, and food assistance. I am also deeply troubled by the cuts to Medicaid, which will harm low-income individuals and families who rely on this program for healthcare. The boost in funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will lead to more aggressive immigration enforcement and family separations. Furthermore, I am concerned about the sale of public lands for fossil fuel production, which will harm the environment and Native American communities. As a concerned citizen, I urge you to oppose this bill in its entirety. We must prioritize the well-being of our communities, protect our democratic inst itutions, and promote a more just and equitable society. This bill is a betrayal of our values and a threat to our democracy. I demand that you take a stand against this bill and fight for the rights and dignit y of all individuals.
