As your constituent, I am writing to demand that you publicly pledge to protect our democratic process during the opening session of the new Congress on January 3. Legal scholars have warned of a procedural loophole where House leadership could replace the institutional House Clerk with a partisan loyalist to intentionally alter, delay, or omit state-certified members-elect from the initial voting roll. Subverting certified election results through administrative trickery is unacceptable. I urge you to commit to the following: 1 Publicly oppose any attempt by leadership to fire or replace the career House Clerk right before the new session. 2 Object to any procedural maneuver that refuses to seat a member-elect who holds a valid certificate of election signed by their state’s governor. 3 Vote "no" on any Speaker candidate who attempts to manipulate the Clerk’s roll. The American people expect the certified winners of the midterms to be seated without delay. Please let me know where you stand on protecting the institutional integrity of the House roll call.
