I’m writing to express my deep frustration and anger over the proposed $1.2 billion cut to the National Park Service budget for fiscal year 2026. This isn’t just a budget adjustment — it’s an outright assault on one of the most cherished public goods we have. Our national parks are not political pawns; they are sacred, irreplaceable parts of our collective story.
The suggestion to transfer ownership of some parks to states or tribal governments may sound cooperative, but in practice, it threatens to dismantle the consistency, protection, and long-term preservation these places require. We need national, unified stewardship — not piecemeal management based on political whims or underfunded local systems.
This proposal endangers not just landscapes, but the future. If Congress fails to protect these parks, it sends a clear message: that short-term politics matter more than shared responsibility and generational legacy.
Please do the right thing. Reject this disastrous proposal and fight for full, reliable funding for the National Park Service.
