Support our immigrant communities

To: Rep. Osienski, Sen. Walsh

From: A constituent in Newark, DE

June 19, 2025

Delaware has long provided a home for immigrants and people seeking safety, but the Trump administration’s actions threaten our families, friends, and neighbors, and instill fear in our communities. This is not who we are as Delawareans and undermines our state’s values. Right now, Delaware’s General Assembly has a role to play. That's why I’m urging you to take immediate action to provide our state’s immigrant communities the safety, dignity, and respect they deserve by saying “yes” to: 1. Immigration Enforcement Limits & Protections -House Bill 58 bans police from targeting people based solely on actual or suspected immigration status or civil immigration violations. -House Bill 93 limits school resource officers and constables from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement. -House Bill 94 and House Bill 150 limit state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement at sensitive locations such as schools, churches, and courthouses. 2. Privacy and Data Protections -House Bill 60 strengthens Division of Motor Vehicle rules to ensure personal data is protected, including information that may reveal immigration or citizenship status. -House Bill 95 adds another layer of privacy protections for families and students by limiting the release of student records in connection with immigration enforcement efforts. -House Bill 96 promotes accountability by requiring reports on federal agency requests for data or assistance related to immigration status. 3. Education Support for Immigrant Communities -House Bill 44 ensures the continued operation of Delaware’s Migrant Education Program. These bills are a critical step toward ensuring that our state remains a place where all people — regardless of immigration or citizenship status — can live without fear, contribute fully, and are guaranteed the civil rights and liberties of every person in this country. I urge you to say “YES” to protecting Delaware’s immigrant communities.
