I urge you to cosponsor and support S.1365, Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s bill to prohibit federal contracts and grant payments to companies beneficially owned by special government employees (SGEs). SGEs are meant to serve the country. But when they retain ownership stakes in private companies that receive federal contracts, they are able to direct grants, and funding to enterprises they personally profit from. Without clear legislation barring this blatant conflict of interest, federal funds will continue to enrich private individuals who use their insider status for gain, all at taxpayer expense. Public trust in government depends on ensuring federal positions are not exploited for personal enrichment. S.1365 is a strong, commonsense reform that creates a fair, enforceable barrier against self-dealing. Please join Senator Shaheen in advancing this vital legislation.
