Reject harmful anti-DEI order, protect equal opportunity for all

To: Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin, Rep. LaHood

From: A constituent in Stillman Valley, IL

January 29

The executive order to end government diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs is misguided and harmful. DEI efforts aim to create a more just and equitable society by addressing systemic barriers faced by underrepresented and marginalized groups. Promoting equal opportunity and inclusion strengthens our democracy and institutions. DEI programs do not discriminate against anyone, but rather work to level the playing field and ensure fair access. They recognize that historical and ongoing discrimination creates unequal starting points. Efforts to increase diversity and cultural competence help government better serve all Americans. Abandoning this vital work would be a step backwards. This executive order rests on false premises and perpetuates the very injustices DEI seeks to remedy. I urge you to oppose this order and instead champion policies that bring people together, not divide them. Our government should represent the great diversity of our nation and be committed to equal dignity and opportunity for all.
