Protect women voters, reject restrictive SAVE Act requirements

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Bost, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Carbondale, IL

February 10, 2025

The SAVE Act would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. According to a report from the Center for American Progress, around 7% of U.S. citizens do not have access to citizenship documents such as birth certificates or naturalization papers. This could create significant barriers to voter registration for millions of eligible citizens under the proposed requirements. Many others, including up to 32 million married women whose names differ from their birth certificates, could face hurdles as well. Please consider these potential impacts before supporting HR22.
