Demand Independent Investigation Into ICE Killing of Renee Good

I am writing to demand that you use your authority to ensure an independent investigation into the killing of Renee Good by ICE in Minneapolis and the subsequent breakdown of accountability within the Department of Justice. The facts are deeply troubling. When ICE killed Renee Good, the DOJ's Civil Rights Division declined to investigate without explanation, abandoning the standard protocol that automatically triggers investigation when law enforcement uses deadly force. This decision was so egregious that four senior leaders of the Civil Rights Division, including the chief, principal deputy, and two deputies, resigned in protest within days. Career prosecutors do not resign lightly. They understand the difference between difficult decisions and political interference. Within 24 hours of the shooting, Vice President JD Vance declared it justified and President Trump claimed Good had run over an officer, despite video evidence suggesting otherwise. The verdict came before any investigation. The FBI was assigned to handle the case alone while Minnesota state authorities were blocked from their traditional oversight role. Local investigators were frozen out, evidence was centralized, and transparency was treated as a threat rather than a necessity. If the officer acted lawfully, an investigation would prove it. Investigations do not presume guilt. They protect legitimacy and public trust. Only those afraid of the truth prevent scrutiny. Shielding law enforcement agencies from accountability does not strengthen them. It corrodes them. Real law enforcement depends on public trust, which depends on accountability. This is not an isolated incident. Earlier this year, public corruption prosecutors also resigned rather than drop politically convenient cases. The pattern is clear: the law applies until it becomes inconvenient, then it gets bent, buried, or ignored. I urge you to publicly call for an independent investigation into Renee Good's death and to demand that the Civil Rights Division fulfill its mandate without political interference. The question is whether ICE operates under the law or inside a protective bubble where loyalty matters more than legality. Your constituents deserve an answer.
