The proposed budget resolution cutting $880 billion from Medicaid over the next decade would have devastating consequences for millions of Americans, particularly those with disabilities who rely on these vital programs to access necessary care and support services. Slashing Medicaid funding would jeopardize the ability of individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities. Without adequate resources, many may lose access to essential therapies, home care assistance, and other crucial supports that allow them to work, attend school, and engage in daily activities. This would not only diminish their quality of life but also hinder their ability to be productive members of society. We must prioritize preserving and strengthening Medicaid to ensure that individuals with disabilities can continue receiving the comprehensive coverage and services they need to thrive. Cutting funding would undermine decades of progress towards greater inclusion and self-determination for this population. Instead of pursuing harmful cuts, we should explore strategies to enhance Medicaid's efficiency and sustainability while safeguarding access to care for our most vulnerable citizens.
