Reject harmful Medicaid cuts, protect healthcare access

To: Sen. Durbin, Rep. Bost, Sen. Duckworth

May 15

The proposed cuts to Medicaid by Republicans are concerning as they could strip healthcare coverage from millions of Americans, including many with disabilities who rely on the program for essential medical care. The changes would introduce burdensome red tape like work requirements, co-pays, and stricter eligibility screenings that risk wrongfully disqualifying eligible individuals. This bureaucratic nightmare could force many to lose their coverage, with grave consequences for their health and wellbeing. We cannot allow reforms that jeopardize access to care for our most vulnerable populations. Medicaid plays a vital role in providing a healthcare safety net, and cuts of this magnitude would be devastating, potentially costing lives. Rather than pursue draconian policies that undermine the program's core purpose, we should be working to strengthen and expand Medicaid to ensure all Americans can access the quality, affordable care they need and deserve. I urge you to reject these harmful proposals and protect Medicaid for those it serves.
