Ban Bathroom Bans — They Incite Violence Everywhere

To: Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Irwin, Rep. Miller

From: A verified voter in Milan, MI

August 5

Support a statewide ban on bathroom ban ordinances. Allowing these laws anywhere incites hate everywhere — and what happened in Bossier Parish proves it. A mob beat two transgender people at Cypress Black Bayou Park so severely that Shae Sanders lost consciousness and needed stitches, and Aurora Rush sustained a concussion. The police arrested the victims, not the attackers. Weeks later, Sheriff Julian Whittington requested Ordinance No. 22, and the Police Jury passed it on July 15 — the same day the couple was originally scheduled for arraignment. Read the full account here: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/trans-couple-brutalized-at-louisiana Bathroom bans don't protect anyone. They manufacture targets. They require government employees to police gender, threaten jail time for noncompliance, and send a clear signal to bad actors that trans people are fair game. There is no public safety justification — only a legal framework that emboldens mobs and leaves victims without recourse. One ordinance in one parish is not a local issue. These laws spread. A clear, enforceable prohibition on bathroom bans is the only answer. Ban them.
