Urgent: Protect Social Security from Sabotage - Act Now
To: Rep. Randall, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray
From: A constituent in Tacoma, WA
March 8, 2025
Dear Representative, I am writing to you with a deep concern about the current and rapidly escalating threats to Social Security, which millions of Americans depend on for their retirement, disability benefits, and other critical services. I have come across alarming reports from an inside whistleblower at the Social Security Administration (SSA) that suggest a systematic and intentional dismantling of the agency. This is not only jeopardizing the stability of Social Security but could lead to a catastrophic collapse if we do not act now. Recent revelations indicate that the acting commissioner of the SSA, Leland Dudek, has been taking drastic steps to undermine the agency’s capacity to function. According to the whistleblower, these actions include the termination of critical employees, including those responsible for addressing massive case backlogs, as well as the dismantling of key offices such as the Office of Transformation and the Office of Civil Rights. The termination of 7,000 employees, including key staff overseeing regional field office operations, is a direct attack on the agency’s ability to serve the American people. The cuts, which have been implemented under the guise of efficiency, are causing severe damage. The consequences of these actions are already being felt, with some employees facing such intense pressure that it has led to tragic suicides. Senator Ron Wyden and other key figures in Congress have warned that these cuts will lead to significant service disruptions, with predictions that SS checks may eventually not be sent at all. This is a deliberate strategy to hollow out the system, creating the conditions for its privatization—something Musk and Trump have openly advocated for. Social Security is a program that serves over 73 million beneficiaries, with a significant portion of them being retirees and individuals with disabilities. For many seniors, particularly those in rural areas, Social Security is their primary or only source of income. It is imperative that we preserve this program, which is not a “Ponzi scheme,” as Musk has suggested, but a vital safety net that Americans have paid into their entire lives. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent the further dismantling of Social Security. We need to ensure that the SSA remains fully operational and that all necessary resources are allocated to avoid the disruption of benefits for millions of Americans. This includes opposing efforts to cut the agency’s workforce further and advocating for a robust and fully funded Social Security program. Please use your position to protect this essential program, and call for an investigation into these destructive actions. It is essential that we act now to protect Social Security for current and future generations. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to hearing about your actions to defend Social Security and the millions of Americans who rely on it. Sincerely, Stellar V
