Uphold ethics, protect civil service from corporate overreach

To: Sen. Coons, Sen. Blunt Rochester, Rep. McBride, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Millsboro, DE

February 14, 2025

As citizens, we must express our concerns about the ethical implications of providing federal contracts worth billions of dollars to Elon Musk's companies while simultaneously allowing the mass termination of career civil servants across government agencies. This unsettling combination could concentrate power in the hands of a wealthy individual while undermining vital public oversight and accountability mechanisms. We urge you to carefully scrutinize any attempts to award lucrative government contracts to Musk's enterprises in light of his recent attacks on federal investigators and regulatory bodies. Unchecked corporate influence coupled with a dismantled civil service would deal a severe blow to principles of good governance and fair competition. While supporting innovation is laudable, it cannot come at the expense of public interests and democratic values. We implore you to robustly defend the federal workforce and maintain vigorous oversight to prevent ethical lapses or abuse of power. A balanced approach honoring transparency, due process, and the public good must prevail. We count on your leadership to uphold these cherished democratic principles.
