An Open Letter

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to vote yes on the state budget and ensure that it fully funds our government, including free school lunch for all children and the complete School Aid funding request for Michigan’s public schools. Michigan families depend on a functioning government that meets the needs of every community. Fully funding education is not optional—it is the foundation of our state’s future. Schools cannot deliver high-quality education when they are forced to cut staff, programs, or services. Teachers and students deserve classrooms where resources are not stretched to the breaking point, and where every child has the opportunity to succeed. One of the simplest, most impactful ways to support students is by guaranteeing free school lunch. No child should be forced to learn on an empty stomach, nor should parents have to choose between paying bills and making sure their children can eat at school. Universal school meals improve attendance, academic performance, and overall well-being. Voting yes on the budget is about more than numbers on a page—it is about showing that Michigan values its children, its educators, and its working families. I strongly urge you to support this budget and protect the essential services that make our communities stronger.
