Stop Funding ICE's Domestic Terror Campaign Against Our Communities

To: Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree, Sen. King

September 28

Cut ICE's funding and end the 287(g) program now. What is happening in our communities is not immigration enforcement — it is a domestic terror campaign against civilians, and you have the power to stop it. ICE arrested a man taking out his trash in Miami. A father was grabbed in front of his six-year-old son at a school bus stop in Danbury, Connecticut. Brian José Morales García, a 25-year-old US citizen born in Denver, was deported to Mexico because officers didn't believe he was American. These are not isolated incidents — they are the direct result of $75 billion in congressional funding and 2,500+ 287(g) agreements that have turned local police into an invisible ICE force. Attorneys report racial profiling at job sites and construction zones, with workers disappearing day after day. Courts are issuing removal orders in absentia through last-minute "mega-master" hearings designed to ensure people miss their appointments — 53,808 such orders in June alone, a 55% spike. This administration has deliberately made enforcement invisible so there is no accountability. That invisibility was funded by Congress. Withdraw that funding, terminate the 287(g) partnerships, and hold DHS accountable for every citizen wrongly deported and every family torn apart at a school bus stop.
