Close the Dilley Immigration Processing Center Immediately

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Casar, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

April 1

I'm asking you to take immediate action to close the Dilley Immigration Processing Center and end the detention of children in immigration facilities across the country. Court filings document serious violations at Dilley: lack of access to clean water, spoiled food, inadequate medical care, sleep deprivation, denial of legal counsel, and family separations. These conditions violate basic standards of health, safety, and human rights. The case of 5-year-old Liam Ramos from Minnesota, whose photo went viral when he was detained at Dilley during Operation Metro Surge, shows the real harm this facility causes to children and families. No child should be locked in an immigration detention center. Children belong in schools and on playgrounds, not in facilities run by private contractors like CoreCivic. Nearly 30,000 people have signed a petition demanding the closure of Dilley, including Rep. Ilhan Omar who personally escorted Liam and his family back to Minnesota after their release. I need you to push for the immediate closure of Dilley, the release of all detained families, and an end to the practice of detaining children. This requires real accountability and transparency across our immigration system, not empty statements about protecting children while keeping these facilities open.
