Posse Comitatus Act

To: Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Casten

From: A verified voter in Villa Park, IL

August 11

Earlier this year, Trump sent National Guard troops and active-duty Marines into Los Angeles without Governor Gavin Newsom’s consent. A federal judge ruled that action unconstitutional and outside his legal authority. The case is still in the courts, yet Trump is doubling down. Deploying the military against American citizens is a line we cannot allow any president to cross. It erodes the separation of powers, undermines local authority, and violates the principles behind the Posse Comitatus Act Why deploy military force AGAINST and AMONGST US Citizens if not to sow fear, chaos, and form the precedent for a police state? I demand you do your part by censuring these actions. To demand accountability. Lawmakers, such as yourself, have both the constitutional power and the responsibility to check a lawless executive. To launch oversight hearings, subpoena all related documents, and pass legislation to strictly limit domestic troop deployments. The US military is meant to protect and defend the citizens of the United States. Do not let Trump and his admin, use them as a blunt tool of fear and unconstitutional abuse.
