The Trump administration's attacks on immigrants through escalated ICE raids and detentions are unacceptable and must be opposed. With the passage of H.R. 1, Republicans have handed ICE a staggering $171 billion to supercharge mass deportation operations, including $45 billion for inhumane detention centers and $30 billion for more ICE officers and transportation. This unprecedented level of funding will enable more terrifying ICE raids in cities nationwide, with agents violently assaulting and abducting residents. It will lead to the expansion of despicable concentration camps like the facility nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" built on Florida swamplands. Essential workers will be forced into hiding, dealing economic damage to our communities. ICE relies on partnerships with local law enforcement, incentivized by $14 billion in funding, bringing this authoritarian crackdown to our neighborhoods. We cannot allow this assault on our rights and liberties. Firm opposition and public oversight of ICE's conduct are urgently needed to protect innocent people from being unjustly detained and subjected to inhumane conditions without due process. This push towards an authoritarian police state targeting immigrants must end.
