Co-sponsor and vote yes on the Ban Flock Act, H.R. 10691. Flock Safety has installed tens of thousands of automated license plate readers across the country without community consent, feeding a surveillance network that tracks where people go — the doctor, their kid's school, a place of worship. Federal agencies are buying access to this data, and that has to stop.
H.R. 10691 would ban federal agencies from acquiring or using ALPR data without explicit congressional authorization, cut federal grants to state and local governments that operate these systems, and make any evidence obtained in violation inadmissible in federal court. Data retention would be capped at 48 hours. This isn't a partisan issue — AOC and Jeff Merkley are leading the House and Senate versions, while Republicans Thomas Massie and Josh Hawley have introduced their own companion bills targeting the same surveillance apparatus.
The freedom to move through your community without being tracked is a basic privacy right. Pass this bill.
