Oppose NIH Funding Cap and Support Texas Jobs

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Hunt

From: A constituent in Houston, TX

February 14, 2025

I'm a concerned constituent and I'm writing to urge you to support NIH and NSF funding and to reverse the decision to cap NIH indirect costs at 15%. Many states have already won a legal battle against this that will greatly benefit their states. This cap will devastate research institutions such Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M, and UT. This will lead to layoffs, reduced staff, and will jeopardize critical scientific progress. Indirect costs fund essential infrastructure and support that's needed for discoveries driving innovation and economic growth for Texas. Every $1 from NIH generates $2.46 in economic activity, supporting more than 400,000 jobs in 2023 alone. I hope you will stand up and represent Texas well by opposing this change and working to reverse it.
