Stop ICE Operations Targeting Unaccompanied Immigrant Children

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Hunt

From: A verified voter in Houston, TX

March 12

I need you to stop the Unaccompanied Alien Children Joint Initiative Field Implementation immediately. This program is not protecting children. It's terrorizing them and separating families. ICE is calling these "welfare checks," but internal documents show officials are gathering intelligence to deport children and criminally prosecute their sponsors—the relatives who passed background checks to care for them. In Washington state, a 16-year-old girl was left frightened after an ICE visit, worried her life would be "flipped upside down." This is backdoor family separation. The administration claims children were placed with traffickers, but experts say trafficking cases are rare exceptions. Most children live safely with family members. The real problem was bureaucratic paperwork backlogs, not dangerous placements. These operations won't fix that. They're creating a climate of fear that makes children less safe, not more. ORR is now sharing sensitive sponsor data with ICE, and the new ORR director is a former ICE agent. Legal services for these children have been slashed. This isn't child welfare. It's immigration enforcement disguised as protection. End this program now and restore the firewall between child welfare agencies and deportation operations.
