Block The Spending Bill

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Whitesides

From: A constituent in Canyon Country, CA

May 22

Do not pass the Trump budget. It is a deliberate attack on ALL citizens of the United States of America and it particularly harms our trans comminity. This budget bans medicare and CHIP funding for gender-affirming care. Denying trans people coverage is a risk factor for self-harm. You as a legislator are responsible for the fallout of this spending bill. It's immoral to deny healthcare to the poorest in this nation. Medicaid is a necessity for many households. Defunding the healthcare safety net will put many people on the street. Government investment in the economy is vital for our country to run. Unhealthy people can't work as long nor as hard. We will see less money go to health infrastructure resulting in higher premiums and fees. Poor americans who can afford coverage without medicaid will soon see themselves priced out as well. This spending bill is the direct result of capitulation on the Continuing Resolution. A government shutdown would have been far more preferable to the current state of the country. Democratic Leadership like Schumer cited economic turmoil as their reason for folding last time. Well I see America had its first credit rating downgrade. How much turmoil did you want to avoid because it seems fairly tumultuous from my point of view. Sure the country is resilient but that's because we had social safety nets. This administration is tearing holes in that net on your watch. When are you going to stand up for us?
