The Constitution disqualifies candidates who have engaged in insurrection from holding federal office, including the presidency. There is overwhelming evidence that Donald Trump's statements and actions incited and supported the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, aimed at overturning the lawful results of the 2020 presidential election. This was an unconstitutional insurrection against American democracy itself. Therefore, based on the clear criteria laid out in the 14th Amendment, Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to prevent Donald Trump from ever holding the presidency again by formally certifying that he is disqualified due to his role in fomenting insurrection. Upholding this key constitutional provision is essential to preserve the integrity of our elections and democratic system of government moving forward.
