An Open Letter

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley, Rep. Burlison

From: A verified voter in Springfield, MO

October 7

I am a constituent of yours in Springfield, and I want to make it very clear that the use of the U.S. Military or the National Guard to enter cities is an authoritarian power grab and is absolutely unacceptable. This use of militarized forces to "control crime" is neither wanted or needed in those cities, and Trump is deliberately attempting to use those forces to intimidate and coerce the citizens of those cities into keeping quiet as he kidnaps and disappears thousands of people off of our streets. This kind of authoritarian power grab is exactly what we have seen in rising dictators since WWII, and it is not the kind of country I want to live in, and neither should you. Why are you standing by while we all watch this current regime pry more and more power out of your hands and the hands of the people? We should be working against this kind of Presidential power. The President is not a king. We fought an entire REVOLUTIONARY WAR to prevent this kind of behavior of our leaders, and now we have sleep-walked ourselves right back into being subservient to a tyrant whose whims determine who is oppressed and who gets all the privileges. You shame the Founding Fathers with your inaction and lack of principles, and I expect you to wake up and stop this before we lose our democracy to the rich billionaires and their willing pawns.
