I’m writing to urge you to reject the SAVE Act, SAVE America Act, MEGA Act, and all other anti-voter legislation. These dangerous bills create new and unnecessary barriers to voting that shuts millions of eligible U.S. citizens out of our democracy and results in voter purges that strip us of our freedom to vote. These bills would also effectively end online and mail voter registration, make vote by mail more difficult to access, and allow the federal government to interfere with state and local elections. If passed, these bills could disenfranchise millions of voters, especially naturalized citizens, voters of color, voters with disabilities, young and older voters, rural voters, and voters with low incomes. They would require voters to present a passport or birth certificate in person just to register to vote, impose criminal liability on hardworking election officials, criminalize practices that help older voters and those with disabilities cast their ballots, and require states to hand over private voter data to the federal government. These bills aren’t about keeping our elections free and fair. They’re about politicians setting the stage to interfere with election results they don’t like. Please reject these dangerous, anti-voter bills.
