Stop Sitting on the Sidelines While the Middle East Spirals

To: Rep. Kustoff, Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Brownsville, TN

April 25

The situation in the Middle East is spiraling out of control and Congress needs to act instead of watching from the sidelines. Trump just canceled peace talks with Iran while oil hits $105 a barrel and our military bases across the region sit damaged from Iranian strikes that will cost billions to repair. Thirteen U.S. service members are dead. This isn't sustainable. I need you to push for a coherent strategy. Right now we're imposing new sanctions on Iran's oil network while simultaneously backing away from diplomacy. The Israel-Lebanon ceasefire keeps getting extended but both sides are still fighting, with nearly 2,500 killed in Lebanon. Iran's military is threatening retaliation if we continue blockading their ports. We're lurching from one crisis to the next with no clear plan. Either commit to serious diplomacy or commit to a military strategy, but this half-measure approach is failing. The Strait of Hormuz situation alone could trigger a global economic crisis. I want to know what you're doing to prevent this from escalating further and what your position is on a path forward. The American people deserve better than watching this chaos unfold while Congress does nothing.
