I suspect as someone in frequent touch with Federal government employees, on your way to becoming elected government leaders, you were taught the mantra of “Run Government [More] Like a Business” or something similar… as if the “good” of capitalism and Big Business are the same as the good of society, and should thus define “good government. In this, you, like millions supporting the MAGA movement, and to a different extent all of us, really, got manipulated by shrewd and powerful proponents of that "greater" "good": what's good for Big Business and those who enrich themselves to the impoverishment of others. The subtle tactics our empire builders used closely resembled techniques we developed for guerrilla warfare: psychological operations and propaganda. Look close, and you will find the roots and effects of that manipulation as far back as pastors helping politicians promote Manifest Destiny (justifying slavery, genocide, and many broken promises) and its tendrils growing into everything including propaganda-sold-as-pioneering-feature-film "Birth of a Nation" (romanticizing the Confederate “lost cause”) the "lessons learned" from Nixon/Watergate (they didn’t do anything wrong, they just did it the WRONG WAY; so just be sneakier next time), the rise of Reaganomics (giving birth to the super-rich even as he was killing the Fairness Doctrine), and everything else that groomed millions of us to keep quiet and live what we thought were decent lives while signing away our Free Speech and our Personhood to CORPORATIONS and, now, the rule of International Organized Slime (see: Vladimir Putin, Elon Musk, Donald J. Trump). Of course even our Democrat party legislators aren't acting like it's a domestic threat and a clear and present danger. It’s the system that rewarded them (you) with political success. Of course the previous Administration's DoD and DoJ didn't react to it as the threat it has become either. Of course Putin's happy. All the suits are sufficiently on the same page that they see Progressive politics as more of a threat than what their (your) inaction is putting us through now. Treat treason like treason, and then maybe I can believe in government of/by/for the people (not corporations or the super rich) again.
