The Trump administration's actions to gut USAID are deeply concerning and will have severe negative consequences both domestically and abroad. Freezing foreign aid and dismantling the systems that deliver it threatens to cost thousands of American jobs and undermine global development efforts that promote stability and U.S. national security interests. Federal contractors have already racked up millions in unpaid bills, forcing mass furloughs and layoffs across the country. This devastates livelihoods, local economies, and critical supply chains, including those impacting American food security. Moreover, stopping USAID's important work combating disease, famine, and instability creates dangerous vacuums that breed extremism and allow adversaries like China to expand malign influence. For the good of the nation and world, the administration must reverse course on its reckless sabotage of USAID before irreparable damage is done.
