Curb plastic pollution, promote sustainable alternatives

Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to our environment and communities. As a concerned citizen, I urge you to support measures that reduce the use of single-use plastics and promote sustainable alternatives. The facts are staggering: The U.S. Department of the Interior reports that single-use plastics like food containers, bottles, straws, and bags are designed for one-time use before being discarded. This disposable culture contributes immensely to plastic waste accumulating in our lands and oceans. However, there are viable solutions. The Department is taking steps to phase out single-use plastics on its managed lands by 2032, including providing more water bottle filling stations, improving recycling and waste diversion, partnering with vendors to eliminate plastic bag sales, and raising public awareness. I urge you to back initiatives that limit single-use plastic production and consumption in our communities. Implementing bans, fees, or other deterrents can drive consumers and businesses toward reusable, recyclable, or compostable options. Such policies protect our environment, reduce pollution, and safeguard public health for generations to come. Tackling the plastic crisis requires collective action across all levels of government and society. I ask that you prioritize legislation and funding that advances a future free from plastic waste. Thank you for your consideration of this crucial issue.
