Demand Action on Gas Prices and Oversight of Trump’s Fuel Cost Boasts

To: Rep. James, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Sterling Heights, MI

October 26

I am writing to register my utter disgust with Congress’s continued cowardice, spineless complacency, and complete refusal to check President Trump on even his most callous actions. In recent remarks, Trump openly mocked the financial strain of everyday Americans. He acknowledged that people are "suffering at the pump" and paying higher fuel prices, only to dismiss their pain with brazen contempt, declaring: "I don't give a damn. I'm going to say it. We're making a freaking fortune." While working families are crushed by soaring transportation costs and inflated grocery bills, the President publicly celebrates windfall cash and shrugs off the burden on working-class households. Yet, true to form, Congress does nothing. Your total abdication of duty is shameful. Rather than acting as a co-equal branch of government with a constitutional mandate to check executive excess, Congress has rolled over and allowed this administration to govern through unchecked arrogance. You have rubber-stamped reckless economic posturing, looked the other way while consumers are squeezed, and refused to summon an ounce of spine to hold him accountable. Families do not pay their rent or fill their tanks with federal revenue boasts. If you have any integrity left, stop cowering before Trump's rhetoric. Subpoena the profiteers, investigate price gouging across the energy sector, pass immediate relief for struggling consumers, and finally do the job you were elected to do instead of enabling a President who openly laughs at our suffering.
