Co-sponsor the Feeding Families Not Fear Act, introduced by Representatives Shontel Brown and Jim McGovern. This bill would repeal the $75 billion ICE slush fund created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and restore that money to SNAP, the program that fed 42.1 million Americans every month in 2023. The math is brutal: Congress just handed ICE $45 billion to expand detention beds and $8 billion to hire deportation officers, while the CBO estimates SNAP will lose $186 billion over the same period. Nearly 40% of SNAP recipients are children. We are cutting food from kids to fund mass detention. Starting in 2028, states will also be forced to shoulder SNAP costs if their error rates exceed 6%, pushing even more families off the program.
This is a choice, not a budget constraint. Rep. McGovern rightly noted that $75 billion is bigger than the entire military budgets of most other nations. That money belongs in the grocery carts of hungry families. Co-sponsor this bill and fight to get it out of committee.
