The SAVE Act poses a grave threat to our democracy by creating unnecessary barriers to voting that would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters. Over 21 million Americans lack easy access to documents like passports or birth certificates that this bill would require for voter registration, denying their fundamental right to vote. This bill endangers the voting rights of naturalized citizens, voters of color, voters with disabilities, young and older voters, rural voters, low-income voters, and anyone who has changed their name. It will not protect elections, but rather silence the voices of countless eligible voters while furthering dangerous lies about voter fraud. Federal law already prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections, and states have systems in place to enforce this requirement. The SAVE Act is an unneeded, anti-democratic measure that would burden election officials and lead to unconstitutional voter purges stripping people of their rights. We have seen the damage such policies cause, with over 35,000 voters blocked from the rolls in Kansas before courts struck down a similar law as unconstitutional. I urge you to resoundingly reject this dangerous and discriminatory legislation. Protecting our freedom to vote and the integrity of our elections requires safeguarding access to the ballot box, not erecting unconstitutional barriers that disenfranchise eligible voters. Vote no on the SAVE Act and uphold our most fundamental democratic principles.
