I am writing to bring to your attention the urgent situation concerning Giovanna Hernandez-Martinez, who has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Giovanna Hernandez-Martinez is a highly dedicated advocate and social worker who has contributed significantly to the Alabama community. She earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Social Work from Jacksonville State University, graduating with honors. Throughout college, she served as a campus ambassador, resident assistant, and an active member of several organizations supporting students and community engagement.
Ms. Hernandez-Martinez currently works full-time as a Bilingual Education Advocate and Coach with the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (HICA), where she helps students and families navigate the path to higher education. She was detained by ICE while on her way to work—a development that has caused serious concern among community members who recognize her commitment to service and education.
I respectfully urge your office to look into this matter and consider any avenues of assistance or intervention that could help ensure Ms. Hernandez-Martinez’s fair and timely release as she pursues her legal rights.
