Medicaid Cuts and Work Requirements

To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Lake View, NY

May 22

Please oppose and vote against medicaid work requirements. It is proven that medicaid work requirements do not increase employment, they only kick people off of care. If you want people to work, then let us have healthcare so we are well enough to work. My fiance and I both have several chronic conditions that require medication to manage. We would find it difficult if not impossible to work without managing those conditions. At the same time, we don't qualify for disability, so I doubt we would be covered under an exception. If this passes, it could kill us. This also leaves a lot of uncertainty for people who are self-employed and do freelance and gig work. Will this count toward the work requirements? How can we report it? Do the self-employed and freelancers not deserve healthcare? What about my fiance, who cannot drive? What are we supposed to do? Please, I beg you to bring these issues up to your colleagues. Please don’t let this disastrous legislation go through and kill us. Please stand up for us.
