Support the Congressional Trade Powers Reform Act of 2026

To: Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Kustoff, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Brownsville, TN

July 22

Co-sponsor and vote yes on the Congressional Trade Powers Reform Act of 2026. Congress has handed presidents a blank check on tariffs for decades, and Trump is cashing it — invoking Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, a law so obscure it has barely been used in a century, to slap 50% tariffs on Canadian goods. That is not executive leadership. That is abuse of authority, and it is raising costs for American families and small businesses right now. This bill fixes the problem directly. It requires Congressional approval before tariffs go into effect under Sections 301, 232, and 201, and it eliminates the outdated authorities Trump keeps reaching for. A new Joint Committee on Tariffs and Trade would have 30 days to review proposals before any vote — a reasonable check that protects both the economy and the constitutional role of Congress. The political odds are tough, but that is not an excuse for silence. Take a stand.
