I am writing as your constituent to urge you to take seriously the six Articles of Impeachment recently introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen (TN-9) against Chief Justice John Roberts.
As a citizen who cares deeply about the integrity of our institutions, I am alarmed by the pattern described in these articles:
• Inconsistent, seemingly partisan handling of redistricting cases across states like Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia, and Tennessee, where the timing and application of legal principles appear to favor one party over the other.
• Rulings that critics argue entrench minority rule and undermine the core democratic principle that government should reflect the will of the people.
• A campaign finance jurisprudence that has been criticized for favoring wealthy and powerful interests over ordinary citizens.
• Decisions that some legal scholars argue improperly shield a sitting President from accountability under the law.
• A broader pattern of arbitrary and unexplained rulings that has eroded public confidence in the Court’s impartiality.
• Unresolved questions about financial disclosure and recusal practices, including reporting on Justice Roberts’ spouse’s professional activities with law firms appearing before the Court.
While I understand impeachment of a sitting Chief Justice is an extraordinary step, I believe these concerns deserve serious, public examination by the Senate. The Supreme Court’s legitimacy depends on public trust in its independence and consistency, and that trust has been badly shaken.
I would appreciate knowing your position on these articles and whether you support a formal inquiry into these allegations.
Thank you for your time and service.
