Condemnation of the Illegal and Baseless War on Iran
I am writing to express my absolute outrage and condemnation regarding the Trump administration's launch of an illegal and baseless war against Iran, reportedly aimed at achieving regime change. This action represents a catastrophic betrayal of the president's repeated pledges to be a "president of peace" and to avoid dragging the United States into another disastrous Middle East conflict.
As documented extensively, President Trump, Vice President Vance, Director of National Intelligence Gabbard, and other top officials all explicitly promised the American people that they would not start new wars or pursue regime change. They campaigned on ending conflicts, not igniting them. This administration has now done exactly what it swore it would not, exposing its peace rhetoric as a cruel and deceptive campaign tactic.
This war is illegal. It lacks any credible authorization from Congress and any legitimate justification under international law. It repeats the catastrophic errors of the Iraq War, errors that this administration's own leaders previously condemned, by launching an unprovoked attack based on flimsy premises, to overthrow a foreign government. The consequences will be deadly and far-reaching: American service members placed in harm's way, countless Iranian civilians killed, the region pushed toward wider conflict, and global stability shattered. This is not strength; it is reckless, unconstitutional warmongering.
I demand that you:
1. Publicly condemn this illegal war and vote against any funding or authorization for it.
2. Use all oversight powers to investigate how the administration misled the public and bypassed Congress.
3. Reassert Congress's exclusive constitutional authority to declare war and insist that any further military action receive prior authorization.
The American people did not vote for this war. We demand that our representatives stop it before more lives are destroyed.
