I read an article today in The Guardian. It stated that new Trump rules allow VA doctors to refuse treatment based on political affiliation and/or marital status. That is unacceptable. I'm a veteran from a family with a tradition of military service. This country had no problem with me volunteering to serve, being commissioned as an officer, and going to war in defense of the Constitution. But now it has a problem fulfilling its duty when I came home from doing what it asked of me? I already had a poor opinion of the VA -- I came home with PTSD when my submarine was involved in a collision at sea; the VA has repeatedly rejected my claims because they refuse to admit a service connection -- but now I know that the VA is inherently broken. I can't help but feel like this country is more than happy to send men and women to war, but that they expect us to come home whole or not at all. I have hope that those who truly support our veterans will step up to undo this damage.
