Protect health care and SNAP in government funding

To: Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Quigley

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

October 4, 2025

I am writing to urge you not to support any government funding package that fails to protect access to affordable health care and nutrition assistance. Specifically, I ask you to ensure that ACA tax credits, Medicaid coverage, and SNAP benefits are renewed and fully funded. These programs are essential lifelines for millions of Americans. The ACA tax credits make health insurance affordable for working families; Medicaid ensures that older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income households can access basic care; and SNAP helps families put food on the table and avoid hunger. Cutting or neglecting these programs would have devastating effects on communities across our state. Please stand firm in prioritizing the well-being of your constituents over partisan negotiations. A budget that leaves people without health care or food security is not a responsible or moral budget. Thank you for your service and for listening to the voices of those you represent.
